Case Studies
How some of our matters unfolded
Three anonymised cases that reflect the kinds of situations we work through and the outcomes we helped reach.
Case Study 01
Contested divorce with asset dispute
The situation
A couple had been married for eleven years and held assets jointly. One party wanted to proceed quickly; the other was uncertain about valuation of shared property.
Our approach
We engaged both parties through their respective representations, facilitated a joint valuation process, and proposed a division framework both could accept without proceeding to a full hearing.
The outcome
An agreed division was registered within four months. Neither party needed to attend a contested hearing. Ongoing communication between the parties improved significantly.
Case Study 02
Maintenance variation after job loss
The situation
A client paying spousal maintenance had lost their position and could no longer meet the agreed monthly payment. The original order had been made two years prior.
Our approach
We prepared documentation showing the material change in circumstances and approached the receiving party's legal representative to discuss a temporary variation, deferring formal proceedings.
The outcome
A six-month interim arrangement was agreed by both parties without a court hearing. A formal review was scheduled once the client's employment situation had stabilised.
Case Study 03
Inter-country adoption by expatriate couple
The situation
A couple, one Thai and one foreign national, wished to adopt a child registered with the Department of Children and Youth. The foreign partner was concerned about the complexity of the process.
Our approach
We prepared and submitted the application in full, coordinated home study requirements, managed the liaison with the department, and prepared the family for the court hearing.
The outcome
The court approved the adoption fourteen months after initial application — broadly in line with expectations for an inter-country case. The family described the process as "far less daunting than we had feared."
