Our Story
Caring for families, one matter at a time
Baanrak was founded on a simple belief: that people facing family difficulties deserve a lawyer who listens before they speak.
← Back to HomeWho We Are
A practice rooted in Bangkok, built around families
Baanrak began with a straightforward idea: that families going through difficult times should not have to navigate the legal system alone, or feel hurried through a process that has real consequences for their lives. We opened our doors in Khlong Toei more than a decade ago, and since then we have worked with hundreds of families across Bangkok and beyond.
Our name means "home" in Thai — and that spirit shapes how we work. We keep the language accessible, the process transparent, and the pace considerate. Some clients come to us in distress; others come with questions they have been sitting with for a long time. We try to meet each person where they are.
We work across three areas: divorce and separation, spousal maintenance, and adoption and guardianship. In each, the goal is the same — a fair outcome, reached with as little difficulty as possible.
Our Mission
To offer family legal counsel that respects the dignity and circumstances of every person who comes to us — without unnecessary urgency, without jargon, and without judgment.
Our Values
- Patience — we move at the client's pace
- Clarity — plain language, honest assessments
- Integrity — advice in the client's best interest
- Discretion — absolute confidentiality
- Fairness — outcomes that both parties can live with

Our Standards
How we hold ourselves accountable
Professional standards are not a formality for us — they are the foundation on which client trust is built.
Lawyers Council of Thailand
All practising lawyers at Baanrak hold licences from the Lawyers Council of Thailand and maintain their standing through continuing legal education.
Client confidentiality
We operate under strict legal privilege. Every detail shared with us remains private. We do not discuss case matters outside the team without client consent.
Clear fee agreements
Before any work begins, we set out fees and scope in writing. Clients always know what they are paying for and why.
Ethics-first conduct
We do not pursue courses of action that are technically possible but ethically questionable. We advise on what is fair and sustainable, not just what is expedient.
Data protection
Client data is held securely and in accordance with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act. We collect only what we need and retain it only for as long as necessary.
Responsive communication
We respond to client messages within one business day. If a matter is urgent, we prioritise accordingly. You will not be left wondering where things stand.
Family law in Thailand — what clients should know
Thai family law is governed primarily by the Civil and Commercial Code, with specific procedures set out in the Child Adoption Act and related legislation. For families in Bangkok — whether Thai nationals or expatriates — understanding the legal framework is the first step toward making informed decisions.
Divorce in Thailand can take several forms: mutual consent divorce registered at a district office, or judicial divorce where parties cannot agree. Asset division, child support, and parental rights each follow their own set of rules. A practitioner familiar with the Bangkok courts and with the specific circumstances that arise in a cosmopolitan city can make a meaningful difference to how those matters unfold.
Spousal maintenance, often called alimony, is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Thai law does not prescribe fixed formulas; the courts weigh capacity to pay against reasonable need. Presenting those factors clearly, and reaching agreement where possible before proceedings begin, generally produces better outcomes for both parties.
Adoption in Thailand involves the Department of Children and Youth and, for inter-country cases, compliance with international frameworks. The process requires patience and careful documentation. Families who approach it with proper preparation tend to find it far less daunting than those who begin without guidance.
Baanrak's approach across all three areas is the same: listen carefully, advise honestly, and help each client find a path forward that they can stand behind.
